Seniors’ Day to Feature Early Texas Artist

Free Admission for Seniors Age 65 & Older


(TYLER, TX) October 19, 2010 – The Tyler Museum of Art invites visitors age 65 and up to enjoy a free Seniors’ Day event featuring the exhibition L.O. Griffith: Painting the Texas Landscape on Monday, October 25, from 10:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. Guided tours of the exhibition will be offered at 10:45 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Complimentary lunch will be served during two seatings, which begin at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. This Seniors’ Day is sponsored by the Helen S. “Seniors’ Days are just one of the ways by which the Tyler Museum of Art serves the community by offering quality, educational programming to different segments of our population,” said TMA Head of Education, Ken Tomio. “In addition to offering free admission and art tours, we hope to provide a fellowship opportunity for seniors here at the Museum by offering lunches following the art tours.” Art tours will guide visitors through an exhibition of paintings of West Texas Landscapes by early Texas artist, L.O. (Louis Oscar) Griffith. The exhibition is organized by the TMA and features artworks that have not been featured in a major exhibition in over 70 years.

Seniors’ Day participants are encouraged to also view the exhibition Form & Substance: The Art of George Tobolowsky, which is on view in the Bell Gallery. L.O. Griffith: Painting the Texas Landscape is organized by Tyler Museum of Art. The exhibition is guest curated by Rebecca Lawton. Signature Sponsors are Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cameron. The Tyler Museum of Art is supported by its members, Tyler Junior College, and the City of Tyler. Accredited by the American Association of Museums, the TMA is located at 1300 S. Mahon Ave., adjacent to the Tyler Junior College campus off East Fifth Street. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
