5th Annual High School Art Exhibition

March 22–April 11, 2009

Exhibition entrants.

The Tyler Museum of Art is pleased to present the 5th Annual High School Art Exhibition. The high schools represented in this exhibition are John Tyler, Robert E. Lee, Whitehouse, Lindale, Big Sandy, Hawkins, Hallsville and Bishop T.K. Gorman.

The students whose works are in this exhibition are high school seniors in advanced art who have dedicated their effort and artistic skills into the creative process of making and understanding art. Their works present a variety of subject matter and technique reflecting each student’s personal expression and development as an aspiring artist.

Taken as a whole this exhibition is a testimony to the exemplary art education offered at respective high schools. The dedicated teachers, in no particular order, are: Linda Keane and Linda East at Robert E. Lee High School; Marilyn Coler at John Tyler High School; Christine Killian and Lisa Kendall at Whitehouse High School; Walter James at Lindale High School; Melodee Overton at Big Sandy High School; April Schodowski at Hawkins High School; and Lisa McGehee at Bishop T.K. Gorman Catholic High School.

The exhibition also represents one of the ways the Tyler Museum of Art supports art education in this region. The Museum encourages young men and women to make art an important part of their adult lives as they leave high school and pursue their chosen careers. We hope that the path for some will be into the various fields of art.

The Tyler Museum of Art thanks the above teachers for selecting the works in the exhibition. We also thank art professors James Pace, University of Texas-Tyler; Chris Stewart, Tyler Junior College; and artist Gregory Zeorlin for judging the works entered in the exhibition. Five outstanding works were chosen to receive “Merit of Honor” awards. Additionally, all the participants received a one-year student membership to the Museum and a certificate of participation.
