Nona & Richard Barrett to Attend TMA Reception

Texas Collectors to Remark on Recent Gift to Museum

(TYLER, TX) October 19, 2011 – Thursday, October 21 the Tyler Museum of Art will welcome its Members and several artists to a reception honoring collectors Nona and Richard Barrett of Dallas who recently donated works currently on view at the TMA. The reception will last from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. and the Barretts will give remarks on their recent gift and long history of collecting contemporary Texas art. Guests to the event will be invited to see the exhibition Impact: Nona and Richard Barrett and Their Passion for Texas Art, Gifts to the TMA’s Permanent Collection and to meet several of the artists whose works are on display.

Through their patronage and support, Nona and Richard Barrett have launched the careers of several contemporary Texas artists into the international arena. They believe that the art being produced in Texas has a vitality and energy, and over several years have developed one of the strongest collections of its kind in north Texas. In 2003 the TMA was a recipient of their generosity through a unique gift of 16 works from their collection through The Museum of Fine Arts Houston, and this year another 11 works from The Dallas Museum of Art have been donated.

With these new acquisitions of paintings, sculptures and works on paper from the Barrett Collection, the TMA has significantly increased its holdings in the area of contemporary Texas art. The generosity of such respected and highly regarded collectors has indeed made a significant impact and will touch the lives of our community and visitors to the Museum over future generations. Impact: Nona and Richard Barrett and Their Passion for Texas Art, Gifts to the TMA’s Permanent Collection was organized by the Tyler Museum of Art and is on view through Sunday, October 23.
