Last Chance to See Babar’s Museum of Art:

Exhibition to Close Monday, August 23

TYLER, TX (August 20, 2010) – The Tyler Museum of Art is staying open late this weekend, so more visitors can see Babar’s Museum of Art. On Saturday, August 21 the Museum will be open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Sunday, August 22 the Museum will be open 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The price of admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and free for TMA Members and children age 12 and under.

“Those of us at the TMA have been excited to bring Babar’s Museum of Art to the Museum, because we knew that the exhibition would afford an opportunity for parents and grandparents to introduce their children to the world of fine art,” said Kimberley Tomio, TMA Director. “The response from the community has been overwhelming, and we have enjoyed watching as visitors to the TMA meet Babar in the Museum gallery. I hope that this exhibition has introduced a new audience to the excitement of experiencing visual arts in the art museum.”

The exhibition contains original works by Laurent de Brunhoff, author and illustrator of the children’s book Babar’s Museum of Art. “The book tells the story of how Babar the Elephant and his wife Celeste transform an old train station into an art museum,” says Tomio. “In the book, de Brunhoff pays tribute to artists such as Leonardo da Vinci, Paul Cezanne, and Picasso by adorning the museum’s walls with classic works of art with a clever twist – the characters depicted in those works of art are all elephants.”
