The Tyler Museum of Art is celebrating the final weeks of its popular exhibition Illuminating Nature: Recent Paintings and Works on Paper by Billy Hassell with a gallery talk featuring Hassell on Sunday, March 9 at the TMA, 1300 S. Mahon Ave. adjacent to the Tyler Junior College main campus.
Start time for the program is 2 p.m. in the Bell Gallery, and admission is free with a ticket to the exhibition. Seating is limited, and visitors are asked to call (903) 595-1001 or e-mail email@example.com by Friday, March 7 to reserve a spot.
Hassell’s talk marks a return trip to the TMA for the veteran Texas artist and environmentalist who most recently was on hand Dec. 14 for the Members’ Preview of Illuminating Nature. Widely known for capturing the natural beauty of his native state on a grand scale, Hassell will share insights on his artistic process and the inspiration behind the close to 30 recent paintings, lithographs and mixed-media creations included in the TMA exhibition. Noted for his large canvases and vivid color palette, Hassell’s most prevalent subject is birds of the Lone Star State as evidenced by pieces such as Road Runner South of Marfa, a painting the TMA added to its Permanent Collection in 2011.
Illuminating Nature continues through Sunday, March 23 in the TMA’s Bell Gallery. Exhibition sponsors are Mr. D.M. Edwards, Patron; Joyce and Bill Pirtle, and James E. Walker, Collectors’ Circle-Gold.
