TYLER, TX (November 22, 2010) – In observance of the Thanksgiving holiday, the Tyler Museum of Art will be closed to the public on Thursday, November 25. The Museum Café will be closed November 25 through 26. The Museum will resume its regular hours of 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday on Friday, November 26. The Museum Café is open Tuesday through Friday, from 11:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
Current exhibitions at the TMA are L.O. Griffith: Painting the Texas Landscape, the first major exhibition of artist L.O. (Louis Oscar) Griffith. Visitors to the exhibition will see over 70 paintings of beautiful and majestic Texas landscapes. Admission to this exhibition is free for TMA Members; $7 for adults; $5 for students and seniors, and free for children ages 12 and under.
Form & Substance: The Art of George Tobolowsky has been extended and will remain on view through Sunday, December 5. This exhibition is free and shows a selection of large-scale sculpture created by artist George Tobolowsky, of Dallas. Tobolowsky uses discarded steel and scrap metal to create his dynamic sculptures, several of which have been installed outside on Museum grounds.
The Tyler Museum of Art is supported by its Members, Tyler Junior College, and the City of Tyler. Accredited by the American Association of Museums, the TMA is located at 1300 S. Mahon Ave., adjacent to the Tyler Junior College campus off East Fifth Street. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. (The Museum is closed Mondays and major holidays.) Lunch is available in the Museum Café from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and the TMA Gift Shop is open during Museum hours.
