Tyler Museum of Art Holiday Closings
2010 Event Schedule to Include More Family Programming
TYLER,
TX (December 18, 2009)—In observance of the holiday season, the Tyler
Museum of Art will be closed to the public on Thursday, Dec. 24 and
Friday, Dec. 25. The Museum will resume its regular hours of 10 a.m.-5
p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday, beginning Saturday,
Dec. 26.
The TMA also will be closed Thursday, Dec. 31
and Friday, Jan. 1, 2008, for the New Years’ holiday. Regular hours
will resume Saturday, Jan. 2.
With the arrival of the New Year, the TMA will launch a new schedule of
events that features a monthly Second Saturday Family Day. “We are
constantly working to increase the amount of free, educational
programming we offer to the public, and we want to keep a firm focus on
family-friendly activities,” says Ken Tomio, Director of Education for
the Tyler Museum of Art. “Family Days have long been a favorite among
our members and supporters, and we hope that by providing the event at
a regular time each month, more visitors will remember to join us for
free art activities and art tours.”
In addition to the Second Saturday Family Days, the TMA will continue
to offer First Friday Art Tours each month. There will be no tour for
January, however, as the first Friday falls on New Year’s Day.
Programming at the Tyler Museum of Art includes a wide variety of
opportunities for the community to interact with the institution and to
learn about the visual arts world. Guest lectures, Seniors’ Days, and
other events create an atmosphere of learning and excitement at the TMA.
The 2010 exhibition schedule includes a wide range of subject material
including an assemblage of pieces selected from the Museum’s permanent
collection. New Works: Highlights from the Permanent Collection
is open in the Museum’s North Gallery December 22, 2009—May 23, 2010
and features a sampling of the TMA’s latest acquisitions. This summer,
both the young and the young at heart will enjoy a whimsical take on
classic works of art during Babar’s Museum of Art, a
traveling exhibition comprised of original watercolors and studies by
author and illustrator Laurent de Brunhoff, which were created for the
book of the same title. Later in the fall, the TMA will focus on images of the Lone Star State with L.O. Griffith: Painting the Texas Landscape.
The
Tyler Museum of Art, accredited by the American Association of Museums,
is located at 1300 S. Mahon Ave., adjacent to the Tyler Junior College
campus off East Fifth Street. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. (The Museum is closed
Mondays and major holidays.) Lunch is available in the Museum Café from
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and the TMA Gift Shop
is open during museum hours. For more information, call (903) 595-1001
